push it to the top!
Hi,
It may be a little late for this, but I recently acquired a 22" Istanbul 'agop' signature cymbal, with the green logos, Agop signature. To make a long story short, it seems to be some kind of counterfeit : the sound is very different, and the stamp is not the same. As far as I can tell, the stamp has written on it (photo uploaded, hopefully):
ISTANBUL
ZILCILER LTD (??)
A TOMURCUK
C TOMURCUK (??)
HAND MADE
IN TURKEY
You can see the crescent logo just above the writing. From my meager internet researches, I judge it comes from late 1980s, but I don't really know.
FWIW, I don't like the sound of it and I'm trying to get rid of it. I play jazz, prefer lighter cymbals ; it's too heavy for my taste, somewhat aggressive and 'gong'-like. It does NOT sound like the newer agop Signatures.
I'll post this message elswhere if it helps identify what/when the cymbal actually is.
Cheers
Rob
Doh!, disregard my previous message here, my cymbal is indeed an agop signature, those were the stamps used up until 6-7 years ago, they've changed several times over the years. The cymbals were indeed heavier than they are now. So, definitely not from 1980s, and definitely not a zilciler or ziljiler or anything else from that time. Nothing to see here, my mistake. (I'm still looking to get rid of it though)
