Are you looking for a decent kit to fix up? Do you want to turn it around and sell it, or keep it and play it?

I can see throught the bass drum port hole that its shell is a 3-ply w/reinforcing rings, and looks like granitone interior. I'm assuming the rest are, too. Concert toms aren't that collectible, but if you get the hardware, you can remedy that. That is, if the bottom bearing edge isn't all chewed up (SERIOUSLY??? Putting bearing edges directly on stepping stones outside?).

It's not the most collectible kit, but for the price, and the cost of finishing up the toms (again, if the bearing edges are in good shape), it could be a good players kit.

Not a GREAT deal, but decent enough to move on if you're into fixing it up...

I don't know what they mean by...XXX" high by XXX" wide. If it's actually a 14/15/16 tom set up, I would personally pass, actually. A good way to find out is to ask what size heads he bought for them.

Those 3-ply 24" Ludwig kicks are pretty sweet, though...

Hey, thanks! yeah, I don't know how much time/money I'd want to throw at it; I was more thinking in terms of turning around and selling it. Plus, I'm still honeymooning with my early 70s slingerland kit. So maybe I won't move too quickly on this. (I'm about 80 mi. away from where these are sitting, so close enough to move quickly, but far enough that I'd want to be sure.)

I reacted so quickly posting about this kit here on the forum that I didn't even pay attention to the fact that they were concert toms, and so would need hardware, bearing edges cut, etc...that might be more hassle than it's worth, but I agree with you that it's a good price for those shells - I bet it would clean up into a really nice gigging kit.

thanks again!

yeah, the dimensions seemed odd to me too. I wonder if the seller is the owner, or knows much about them. He/she might've never put heads on them. My suspicion is that he/she is simply measuring w/ a tape measure from top to bottom and rim to rim (imprecisely to boot, but who knows...). I bet it is a 14/15/16 set up, from that one photo.

I know the feeling of getting excited about moving on a deal. You sometimes overlook the details, no matter how obvious or important they are. Since you were looking to just buy them and turn them around, I would say pass. By the time you spend the money, the gas, the money for the parts and the time for the labor, it wouldn't be worth it. Plus, that flat red color isn't a big seller.

I imagine you'll see this kit pop up again on craigslist at least a few more times...

Not to mention the fact that if you were to transform this kit into a double head deal, you would possibly be lowering the value of the kit further, since they would no longer be "original".

I'm no fan of concert toms myself so I'd buy it and convert it... but that's just me :)
