EGW - probably right 20x14 could be- I wish it was an 18 though- so much easier and hipper IMO I like 20s fine (better than 22s I think) but I`m much more into 18s these days.

I just noticed - it`s got flared ft legs- they weren`t using them in the 1950s were they? I wonder if those are after market- they look old as well but I am wondering if they are stock? I `m gonna ask the seller now

Looks cool. Definitely a Luddy copy. That's also an interesting BD cymbal mount. Never seen anything like it. Looks like it'd be difficult to use, but different nonetheless. Kind of makes me think of the height adjustable rail mount on my early 70's Yamaha kit. Unique. Yamaha was definitely ripping off Gretsch when they designed my kit, but the American companies never seemed to come up with something as user-friendly as the rail mount on my kit. It's great.

These cymbal mounts are super simple. I have one on my WMP that has a cool "faucet handle" tensioner on it to crank down the outer hoop and it stays put and is super adjustable. I can put the arm anywhere I want it. And the style is too cool, looks like an art deco design.

Many of these old MIJ kits have this copy of Ludwig and Slingerland style 50s BD mounted cymbal holder. Ludwig and Slingerland, I believe, both used this type of mount briefly. Then some engineer, or more likely some guy on the floor or in the warranty dept noted the cymbal arm was, or could be, the same size stock as the legs, and viola, the leg mount was introduced to the top of the bass shell and streamlined parts and decreased line time. This is always how these sorts of things work.

Thanks brother! This kit is definitly a keeper. It has been a joy to learn on. And it sings a bass note like no other drums. These are naturally low toned. I LOVE these thin shells. I cannot say it enough, they have an incredible, low booming tone. Especially since I put the extra layer of curly maple veneer inside. My son told me he will try to pass these on to his children. I so hope and pray he has at least 2 boys as he is, right now, the end of the line for my branch of the family tree.

I dunno, that is one rare set, even with a couple of minor, but functional;, holes...
