Hello everyody!

I'm looking for help...

A friend inherited from his father a ludwig drums and say "can you sale it for me??"

No problem...

But i can't find exactly the model (I think it's a Big beat...) and I do not recognize the badge.

There is no serial number...

And if someone know how much can i sale it, it will be perfect!

The snare is a supraphonic 6,5x14" and there is a blue and olive cut badge and the serial number is 3033985...

I think she is a 83's snare... Is not?

Thanks a lot!! Bowing

Christian

ps: sorry for my bad english!

Those look to be very early Ludwig Rockers.

I don't think it's an early Rockers series drum set.. I have seen that badge before and there were very few made.. Judging from the hardware, it also doesn't show any indication that it is Rockers series, because those were lower budget drums made with cheaper hardware..The bass drum spurs look to be classic pro Ludwig.. Ludwig did have some Rocker drums with classic hardware but the shells had a coating in them called Granitone, which gave them a brown/grey interior.. Also, having drum heads that say Rockers, doesn't mean you have a Rocker drum set., They were pro line drum heads that Ludwig made at the time that were simply called "Rockers", and they were placed on both cheaper and pro line drums of the time.. I'm sure you'll have a Ludwig expert who will exactly identify your drums.. As far as worth, if it is identified as a professional Ludwig , i would say about $800-$1000.. Good luck !

I have a ludwig 1983 S/L kit that is very similar, same color, same heavy spurs mini classic lugs on toms, the Bass drum had large classic lugs, same tom mount.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Where in the world are those drums?

What is throwing me is that badge,I think I have seen it before, but I am associating it with later offshore product.

The S/L kit I had had biege colored paint on the inside.Yours,at least the Bass has a natural interior, which was offered on some rocker drums, but not the ones with classic lugs as far as I know. The grey and black granitone int was on rockers but the later Taiwanese ones had the brown speckled interior.

Rockers had 4 ply shells, S/L had 4 ply toms 6 ply kicks,if the rest of your drums have clear interiors and are six ply that would indicate top of the line Classic shells.

You can search this link to research more here,

As far as worth goes the snare is worth something for sure,Blue and olive badge 6.5 supras would normally bring 275.00 to 425.oo here depending on condition especially on how pitted the chrome is,yours looks very nice.I have heard 6.5 supras have been going for higher prices lately though.

What the other drums are worth depends on a couple of things, firstly what your local market for Ludwig products is.Those would hard to get more than 400.00 here because of the badge issue IMO.

Actually you're incorrect. Ludwig did make Rockers that had classic hardware very early on. I'm also aware that the "Rockers" drum head was a very common head as were the Striders. As a far as the interiors, not all Rockers had granitone interior. Mine certainly don't and they have Classic hardware. The badge is an anomaly to me, but it looks like someone cut out the Ludwig of off a Combo or Educator badge.

Hello!

Thank you everybody for your answers!

To Eamesuser: I'm living in France.

So, if it's a rockers series first edition, why the Spurs are not telescopic?

And the same with the S/L series...

Both haven't classic lugs too... (I don't think that my father's friend take the additionnal option for the Classic lugs...).

Why nobody Think that it van ve a bigbeat series?

Next week, I'll go to get out the drums head to see the différent ply of wood! And take some pictures...

And the badge stay mysterious!!

Thanks again for your help.

Eamesuser, i think you're look right.... it must be a S/L series!

Perhaps a pre-serie??

Thanks to all for your help again!

Ludwig did a Standard series 60's 70's,Then Standard 81/82 shells were 4 ply,and the BD spurs were straight, not curved like yours,S/l series was when Ludwig was transitioning from Chicago to Greeneville NC,I think they used up parts and did whatever they needed to to get kits out the door. The Shells were Maple and select hardwood, and I have seen where people have stripped the shells and both the inner and face ply were nice looking wood, enough so some just clear coated the face ply and had a nice looking natural wood finish kit.

Ludwig is known for manufacturing anomalies,so there are a lot of unusual exceptions documented on these forums. If you want to dig deeper you could remove a lug and see if there is beige paint underneath a washer,if so some one could have sanded off the paint,

if no paint they could have come from the factory that way,you never know with Ludwig.
