What type of drum is this? Last viewed: 43 minutes ago

Is this a converted ludwig marching bass drum or is it a legit drumset bass?

It has legs, but it's attached to the rim, and it looks like a tom mount is also attached not to the drum, but to the batter hoop..

Any ideas? The badge on the drum is from 60-63 era...

Using it as a drumset that i can use in my spare room, so i could care less either way if it's a converted bass, but just wanted to know. thanks

It looks like a virgin bass drum with a 50's style tom mount and legs. If the price is under $150 I'd jump.

What are the measurements, cause, I believe that marching bass drums are typically skinny, like 10 inches in depth.

You might run a completed listing search on Ebay to get an idea of what similiar bass drums are currently selling for.

Nice drum

Drumshop logo, maybe, or an endorsement by Miss Hilton?

drum shop sticker,

what exactly do they call that tom mount? I've been googling all different terms, but can't find any information on it anywhere.

Exactly. It's a Ludwig rail console.

Papa Jo Jones used that same rail on his Gretsch-Gladstone set-up in 1940.

The popular '50s - '60s rail consolette single tom holder idea was a variation on the theme.

See my article on tom holders - (http://vintagedrumguide.com/tom_article.htm )

I'm thinking of doing another peice on bass drum spurs.

It's this old gear that has led to the great stuff we have today, and it's cool to really dig into the details looking back on how it evolved.

I'll bet that old Luddy bass drum sounds awesome, too. Mahogany interior ply...? The best sounding bass drums ever - right along with old Gretsch.

I picked it up on friday, doing some cleaning to it today...

It's amazing, all original, the stamp dates are clear as day. nov 22 1960 for the snare I got, and April 16 1961 for the bass.

They sound great, the snare i just fixed up yesterday and it sounds AMAZING, the bass drum, I'm going to put a new batter head, but im keeping the reso head b/c it just looks so grea with the old ludwig logo and the drum shop logo, as well as the remo logo (all old vintage stickers except for the ludwig logo.

I'll have pictures up some time in the next few days
