I used to wad up a dollar bill and use that for the tilter !!! (many many years ago....)
What to use for bottom hi-hat (getting some K Istanbul 15" hi hats) Last viewed: 3 hours ago
Ah- the K/Z hi hat pair. Actually, I miss my old set of those, but not enough to go back to Zillys. I am a Paiste guy at heart...This is definitely an exercise that needs to be performed in a real, live bricks and mortar store.
In my experience, the K - Z match up was about using modern K's on top, not vintage instanbul K's.

i always tilt a little for that swish sound like in
"incense n peppermints"
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Thanks guys for your feedback. I'm going to try the old A cymbals that I have and see how they work for the bottom cymbal...
Also, I do tilt the bottom hat cymbal. This is especially important for jazz in order to help prevent air lock!
P.S. I have a 20 inch A Zildjian 1960s vintage ride for sale on eBay if anyone might be interested...shameless plug. Among a few other drum items I'm selling off.

Yes; however, I have seen guys use a vintage Instanbul K over an '80s Z back in the day!!! Not a really common practise, I admit. But it has happened. At this point when trying to match hats, you just have to open your ears and mind and try any possibility.
Dead dogs like rusty fire hydrants!!!
