I have the opportunity to buy a 17'' crash, wich is the same size Levon Helm used and it has the right bell shape, profile etc. etc. I would really like to have that sound he got out of his 17'' A Medium crash. But, I don't know the weight and the seller will e-mail me an approx weight in the next day/days. So my question. What would be the average weight of a Zildjian A 17'' medium Crash? I was thinking maby the 1500-1600 to 1600-1700 range? Thanks.

Here's a link I've got from this forum that may help...
Thanks, thing is I was using that link to give me the 1500-1700 grams idea, lol but thanks anyway, I appreciate the help! Cymbalholic right?
As a medium ride cymbal, 1500-1700g would work, but since you are specifically looking for a crash, I would think you would want to go less than 1400 grams. Anything above that and you would be into "gongy" territory.
EDIT: the above info is referring to 60's or older cymbals. 70's and newer crashes are generally heavier.
Thanks, actually I am looking for a medium ride lol. If I bought it, I would've drillled it for four rivets, probably put some tape on it, and played it much like this:

But anyway, as fate would have it, My dad noticed two tiny little cracks in the bell hole of the cymbal. Darn eBay, the seller said no cracks. Maybe he didn't notice it, I'm not one to judge, but still I would've been stuck with a cymbal thats pretty much screw'd.
P.S. the cymbal had the three dot 60's stamp.
Thanks for all your help. Peace
