From mcjnic

Picked up another very nice Luddy Supra for 74 dollars. It came with a case and a stand. That was a nice one. The wife asked why I needed another snare. I pulled out the iPhone and pulled up ebay's going rate on one of these. She smiled and said..."cool". I offered the gent more money and told him that it's worth more. He said that it's been in his parents storage and he just wanted it gone. I have him every penny he asked for and offered to at least pay his fuel for driving to meet us. He even refused that. Sometimes you can lead a horse to water, but you really shouldn't hold their head under for too long. Well, that's what I've learned anyway.

It's nice to see good guys finishing first, mcjnic. You're a credit to the drummer species! :)

About 12 yrs ago (that would make me about 19) I was living with a buddy and his dad for a while. They had an old "beater" kit in their upstairs sitting in the corner acting as a junk storage shelf. I moved a little crap and occasionally beat on it, although I had never really drummed, I had always wanted to. Long sad story short, The friend died about a year later, and I just kind of inherited the set. For some unknown reason it has followed me through two marriages and several moves from WA to AZ to ID and back to WA. Only recently have I gotten a little more into drumming and decided to clean up and use my kit. It was badly faded and missing quite a bit of hardware. For my anniversary present just a couple weeks ago my wife bought me most of the vintage parts to restore it, (She's a keeper!) and I have been doing a pretty thorough cleaning and rebuilding project. This is such a beautiful looking and sounding set, I can't believe what I've had all these years and not even known it.

It is a black diamond pearl Slingerland about 68-69 vintage. I have the 20x14 bass (not drilled for tom mount) 12x8 and 13x9 toms, Ludwig speed king pedal, ludwig spur-lok hi-hat stand and Ludwig aluminum 14" snare stamped 68 inside.

Anyway, there's my story, and now I'm addicted, so I'll be seeing you around here asking questions and sharing stories and pics.

1968? Slingerland Black Diamond Pearl.

A buddy of mine works at a land fill. So far, he's pulled a 16 x 32 bass drum, an old trap case that was full of hardware, a supraphonic and cymbals for his brother in law, and a 16 x 36 bass drum and an acrolite in a case for me......

A few years ago I traded 3 LP Classic conga drums for a '84 4pc Gretsch SB kit. I paid just over $500 for the congas. I also bought a very rare set of congas made by a company in Cuba called Sonoc for $60, cleaned them up a bit and sold them last summer for $600.
