What color Pearl is on this Slingerland 12x14? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

It looks too dark to be considered Rose Marine, and I think the dating doesn't match-up for it to be Rose Marine... It's like a Red/Burgundy... I want to say it's a re-wrap of somesort, but I'd like some other opinions... Thoughts?

Amazing timing!

I was just discussing this drum this morning. I've researched every catalog that I've got -- both in "hard copy" and electronically, and can't find that particular finish anywhere. The only conclusion I can make is that it must be a re-wrap. If not, it's a color that was never catalogued. Just my opinion.

Yea, I've spoken with a reputable source, who does not think it's RMP as the color isn't right, and the pattern of the pearl itself, does not seem correct.

I'm stumped as well...

I spoke to the gentleman listing the drum and mentioned that I can't find this wrap in any Slingerland publication. I asked him directly whether it's in fact a re-wrap.

He stated that the drum was his grandfather's and that his grandfather played his entire life before he passed away recently. The gentleman selling the drum received his grandfather's old snare drums while his brother received the grandfather's kit. I was informed that the gentleman who passed away was very particular about his drums, never letting his grandkids play them while he was alive. The gentleman listing the drum asked his grandmother whether she knew anything about a possible re-wrap. She stated that her husband knew many individuals "in the business" and had the drum special-ordered in the red pearl finish. She said "that's how things were done back then." She added that she NEVER saw her husband re-wrap any of his drums, nor was she aware of him ever having them sent out for a possible re-wrap.

I took a look at the latest pics that were just posted and if you look at the grommet it doesn't appear that it's been tampered with in any way.

That's about all I know at this point.

Here is the Slingerland R.M.P. DuAll/ToneFlange From The Curotto Collection... (December '05 DRUM! Magazine...)

This DuAll is ridiculous... I'm literally sitting here, drooling on myself.

I know Gretsch drums recently started doing the Catalina Club kits in a Rustic Pearl color, which looks just like the Slingerland snare from the magazine.

Did Gretsch do this color back in the day, or are they bringing back a color that only Slingerland did?

If Gretsch did do the color, and since people are having trouble finding the color available in a Slingerland catalog, maybe since they had the request, Bud Slingerland called ol' Fred Gretsch and bought some Red or Rustic Pearl wrap from him. Who knows.

I'd like to thing that Fred, Bud, and Bill were all old buddies who helped each other when they could!!!

I can say with certainty that this was not the case.. Speaking of case, there was a big legal battle between Ludwig and Slingerland that surely broke any potential friendships.

In fact that case brought in different people from around the business including Camco, Gretsch, Remo and others.

I'd bet that drum was (is) original Rose Marine pearl.
