What a gift! (ID help) Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi, I've been a mailman for 34 years and a drummer for 40. Recentley a older man on my route told me how he also played drums but hadn't played in a long time. He said he had an old Slingerland set he bought in 58. He also aked me if I wanted them, as he really hadn't touched them for years. He said they were in cases but he thought they were rusty and maybe warped. To my surprise when I got the home they were gorgeous. Here's my question, Ralph is sure he bought them in 58 but looking at the badges I don't think he's right. They are black and silver with Niles on them. The serial #'s are between 35,xxx and 40,xxx. Ralph also has had several small strokes in the last 6 months so maybe its affecting his memory. I'm curious if you can give me your opinion on them.

I would also appreciate a rough value if possible. I can't believe how clean they are. Please enjoy and I'll post more pics when I'm done. Thanks! Dan

Please don't take this wrong, but the strokes are impacting his ability to recall with precision. These are not from 58. These would date in the very early 70's. They are, in fact VERY gorgeous. You are a fortunate man. I believe that these may be one of the best looking Maple finish kits I've every seen. Very nice.

I really don't believe I should comment on value...'cause I really want those!

What a wonderful gift indeed!! Beautiful drums. I hope you honor your friend Ralph by playing those things every day... I would!

As for a value on them - I'd have to say priceless, but that's cause I'm just a sentimental fool :)

He's a great guy. He asked if I could give him some lessons when his wife retires in a few months. I told him it would be my pleasure. Thanks guys, Dan

Wow! Congratulations DVSdan.

Does anyone know if that is a stock color? With scanned brochures, non-true-color monitors and such, it is hard to tell.
