WFL Ray Mckinley Snare Drum? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

Picked this drum up today off CL. It has some sticky residue on the wrap that I need to get off. THe chrome is all in fantastic shape and except for the heads, the drum looks to be all original including wires. Im on a two day roll here! I believe this is a "Ray Mckinley" model snare from the late 40's or early 50's. Is that correct?

Any advice on the model and the best way to get the sticky stuff off would be fantastic. Will goof off etc hurt the wrap? Should I just use hot water?

It sounds killer as is. Can't wait to get it shined up, put some new heads on it and tune it up!

I use Goo Gone. Works terrific. Get the gel kind.

No abrasive at all. It is a gel that you simply wipe on, let it set for a very few minutes and wipe off. You might try an oxy-type cleaner as well.

Hey Johnny! I have a 14x26 as well that matches this thing. Im stoked! Actually working on getting the 24/13/16 that it was born with from the same seller. Those have a lot more work to do on them though. Original owner put green contact paper all over them. Lame

Here is the finished product though. This was the easy part. Thanks for the goo gone suggestion. I just wanted to make sure the wrap wouldnt get hurt by it. Havent used it before. Im sold!

This thing is in immaculate condition. No rust to be found anywhere. Some minor chrome bubble on a couple lugs, but otherwise....very nice! Sounds incredible too!

Thanks again guys!
