I'm assuming this kit is located in Michigan?
If so, I saw it in person. The "wrap" is nothing more than some sort of shelving paper. Although the floor tom is a Slingerland, it's a different vintage than the rack tom and bass drum. You'll also notice that the snare drum is NOT a Slingerland snare, nor is it American-made.
The gentleman was asking $500 for the kit when I saw it several months ago. I would think that he's lowered his asking price by now.
He also was selling an extremely dark looking Champagne Sparkle Round Badge Gretsch kit (also minus the snare drum) for $1000 at that time.
The l-arm you see on the Slingerland bass drum is actually from the Gretsch kit.

Hey Old School,
what did u think of the champagne sparkle round badge? all original? u think 1000 was a fair price excluding the snare?
That snare is an MIJ, Stewart or Apollo. May be a cheapie, but if it is handled and tuned correctly, it will sound decent enough to bordering on killer. And for 500, you certainly could do better than this train wreck. Hopefully the brainiac left the original wrap on before placing this lovely vinyl on it.

ROUNDBADGEDUDE: In short, NO, the kit wasn't worth $1000 to me, but that's just my opinion.
You may want to check this post which I initiated after viewing the kit in person: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=13896&highlight=Gretsch+Champagne+Sparkle
