Hey Guys,

I`m trying to figure out which one of these two tambourines drove the price up on this ebay sale.My money`s on the Ludwig but what are your thoughts on this one? I have the Ludwig one,but not in as good of condition.Who`d a thought an old early 60`s steambent tambourine would fetch this much.I`m in Canada and in our money with shippng it`s about $182.00.

those are both nice. tambourines can really get pricey sometimes. Ive got a few in the collection now, but it took me quite some time to find some affordable ones.

I used to have a Ludwig wooden tambourine out of the 60s, like John's above (except for the shell, of course). It had the 60s script logo on the head instead of the block logo. I have no idea what happened to it -- I've not seen it for years. But this thread has made me wonder what it may have been worth...

Around 15 years ago,the band Stereolab were here from England playing at a small club..

I was in contact with their drummer Andy before that,so when they got here,he and Mary, the keyboardist/singer came over to our house..

Mary had a birthday coming up,so Andy bought a 60's Lud tambourine from me to give her for that...

We went to the gig,and they had us sit behind them as they played...and for 1 song,Andy tossed the tambourine to me,and I got to jam along with them on it..!

They had a pretty strong following worldwide...broke up a few years ago..

Andy invited me to come to Chicago at 1 point, and help on a LP they were doing...I couldn't make it..and always regretted that..

I have one that's a double row and they sound great on top of your hi hats. Maybe because it's a solid 1 ply maple shell that's rather thick and just heavy enough to stay put. I've never used it as a tambourine and wouldn't give it high marks in that dept at all...Not compared to what's available today anyway..
