Vintage Ludwig - Mixed Years, Value? Last viewed: 1 second ago

Can't comment on the value of the kit or pieces, but it looks to me like the picture of the removed lug, the wrap under the lug seems darker than the rest of the wrap. Clearly, in the kit pics, the kick is darker than the rest, but can you see what I'm seeing?

How is that possible?

I don't see it that way, but I know for a fact the wrap under the bass lug is very bright and shiny. It looks matched to the floor and mounted tom. The bass drum wrap as you can see from the pictures has darkend over the years. I want to know if I can get it the wrap to look like it does under the lugs so it will match better.

The snare is the most valuable commodity on that kit. LudwigDude..$800, really ? I think that's high since the kick is an orphan, and not of the same badge at that.

There is a member here, toniblanco...who actually did a restoration on an old ludwig kit by...believe it or not...carefully sanding the wraps; then applying some sort of polish to return the lustre. This brought back it's original color. Sounds like a scary procedure to me...but it is the SECOND time I have heard of someone successfully returning the faded wrap to it's original hue via sanding.

You can PM him, maybe he has suggestions.

IMHO..based on my experience...you ain't gonna be able to get that wrap back to the color of the portion under the lug. Father time typically cannot be reversed....

Quite honestly....if you don't wanna just live with the two-toneness of the kit, you could consider re-wrapping the bass.

That's a very fair price..if you have a Craigslist in your area, you could probably get that $550 for it all very quickly...considering it comes w/ snare.
