Interesting and beautiful, indeed! Thanks for sharing.
Van der Glas Marching Snare Drum (from Netherlands) Last viewed: 2 hours ago
Thanks guys for the compliments and replies.
Indeed well built snares, that were mainly distributed in The Netherlands and surrounding countries. Nowadays Majestic is crossing the atlantic ocean too with a Mapex alliance.
But I do still prefer their retro, vintage 70's / 80's work, like shown ;-)
Seriously an outstanding and beautiful collection! Love it.
Cheers, Ralf
@Wouter,
a few weeks ago I bought, for little money, only the shell of a VDG drum like the WMP one you showed, with the very thin maple and plastic re-rings/bearing edges. I needed it solely for using the allready yellowed wrap. I peeled it off carefully and used it for another drum. I used the remnant shell for an experiment: I made oak-wood re-rings, glued them in the shells, cut round-over bearing edges. on the outside I glued some nicely printed fabric which I soaked in laquer. I'm making a new snare out of it. I'll show it when finished.

@Ralf, unfortunately this line-up does not reflect my collection (anymore). Nowadays my collection is "restricted" to the ones I like the best: being the brass -blue snares (as pictured), a brass 14 x6,5 concert snare (not pictured) and aluminum 14 x 10 "the Beast" ;-). I simply cannot have all of them!
Recently I found this one, which I am cleaning up at the moment:

@BartW: Sounds like a nice project! Love to see the pics! You might end up with something like the blue one above, which sounds really great!
@wouter, I'll pm you when it's finished, I need a 14 inch hoop and some screws. But I kind of know the sound now. Pretty good, but not amazing, quite ringy, needs muffling for sure. Better when tuned in the mid or even low range.

@ Wouter:
Here it is. It is finally finished. At first I thought it sounded "ok, but not amazing", but I changed hoops (die-casts for triple flangeds) and played it at a band rehearsal. It sounds fantastic! Funny thing is, it costed me only 3 euro's for the fabric. The hardware consists of left-over parts that I had lying around.

Wow, nice job! Looks great! Especially the reinforcement rings.
Sound-wise, I can imagine that you didn't like them at first.
Those drums were designed for marching purposes, so had to sound dryish. This is partly obtained via the diecast rims and usually the somewhat thicker drum heads.
For use with a drum set, some overtones are allowed / wanted. So, your choice to exchange the rims, sounds quite logical to me.
Enjoy it!
Hey guys,
I am looking to purchase the folowing drum:

Thanks!
