Top 10 List - Snare Drums Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Perhaps this has been done here on the VDF, but I thought I'd start anew!

If you could collect only 10 snare drums, what would they be? Only 10, and in the order of importance to you:

The following would be my list:

1) 20's Slingerland Black BeautyYes Sir

2) 20's Ludwig Black Beauty - any model

3) Early Slingerland 8 x 14 Radio King - nice faded WMP

4) 60's Rogers 5x14 Wood Dynasonic - Silver or Blue Sparkle

5) 60's Rogers 7-Line Dynasonic

6) Ludwig COB Super(late 50's early 60's)

7) 70's Gretsch 8x14 M4155

8) 60's Ludwig Keystone Acrolite

9) 20's Ludwig Standard or Super

10) 70's Premier 2000/Flo-Beam

I know everyone has their favorites, these would be mine(for now). With exception to the first two, I think these drums have the playability and sound unlike many drums out there. Would love to hear of everyone else's favorites! Coffee Break2

1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black

I would have to put a 1964/65 Dayton Era 5x14 Wood Dynasonic in Steel/grey ripple pearl at number 1 on the list. Only because it will match my kit and I can't find one anywhere. Other than that, nice list.

1967 Rogers Dynasonic COB 5 line

I'm glad this is being done again, I think snare drums are the most interesting part of it all. Those first 2 would be mine for metal shell ones, i love a good wood snare - love radio kings I have 2 of them they mean a lot cos I play a bit in a big band, great history and vibe as well.I love my acro and have been using it for rock my 64 supra sounds good but I'm disappointed with its snare response so will sell it sometime. I don't know how many others sound in the flesh I reckon camco's will be great and the wood dynasonic

I love the jazz era

This might be a little difficult for me, as i haven't owned too many top notch snare drums, but i'll take shot at it..

1- My 1971 5x14 supraphonic

2- My 1966 4x14 WMP downbeat piccolo

3- My 1950's-ish 6x14 Leedy Ludwig Mahogany snare

4- My 1971 Acrolite

What i'd like to add to my collection..

5- Rogers 5x14 COB Powertone

6-1920's-1940's Ludwig Black Beauty

7- 1940's Slingerland Radio King in Sea Green Pearl

8- 1960's Gretsch Round badge in SBP

9- 1980's 6.5 or 5x14 Tama Rosewood snare

10- And finally, the classic monster that everyone's had at one point in their life, including myself, late 60's or early 70's 6.5x14 LM 402 Supraphonic

IF i can manage to find (and afford) at least one of the final 6, i'd be a happy cat ;)

Yes indeed! and my early B&B Powertone should be included.!

And BUE, well.....pretty chilled, autumn-looks....Coffee Break2

Savage & furious.... and a little bit decadent too, but despite everything, still sophisticated and glamorous!

Thanks for ask buddy, whatever do you need from here, just let me know
