Tamburo Snare Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Well, I have an opportunity to pick up a Tamburo snare. It is a 2004 high end Formula Series looks like a 4x13, never had a stick on it. All original heads etc. I cannot find any US info on it. I found thewebsite:

http://www.tamburodrums.com/tamburodrums/en/index.jsp

What do you think??? This seems to be a really nice drum. I don't want to insult him, but I find no pricing info anywhere. Do any of you Guru's know what kind of value I should put to this guy?

You can click on the dealers box on the website, choose a country, and a list of dealers comes up.

There's one in Oklahoma City.

Maybe call them?

Yeah, but there is not one real website associated with any of these "stores" and the ones that have a site, don't make any mention of Tamburo. When I first posted this, there was a problem with the server, and I did not have the tabs at the top. At least not all of them. So, I tried for the last 45 minutes copy/pasting looking for anything, and still nothing. I get that these are supposed to be a good quality maker. They are Italian craftsman, afterall.....

And it looks like they make a full line of cymbals as well. Wonder if they are any good. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to act stupid, and lowball him and see how he acts. I really hate doing this, because the guy apparently is connected to a small mom & pop music store (which is the one listed by the way, I found some other info that I used to connect the dots) here in the city. But hey, I am ignorant as to this maker....

For what it's worth, you can get an entire stave kit for about 1100 here in the states. That's a stave kit, not the ply kit, like this snare. This snare is a 7 ply N.Am. Maple snare. It's a very common build. There's really nothing notable about it...not to insult it. I'm just trying to shed some light on value. If it were the stave shell snare, it might be notable and thus demand a higher value. I wouldn't pay too much for it. You can check pricing on Pearl snares and Pacific snares and you should get an idea of the going rate. They are fairly cheap and plentiful. The Tamburo is Italian and a bit harder to get, but you can get 'em. When you do, you really don't pay much for them. China has a distribution leg, along with a couple of other routes. Hope this helps.

Hi. Just my thoughts: The Tamburo stuff's great quality build - honestly. I have a wood 13x4 and it sounds amazing. The craftsmanships obvious and mine's hand-signed inside. I only put this out of commision when I managed to get hold of an Ajax.

I did a review of it for sickdrummer magazine, and I contacted tamburo directly- email addresses came up as invalid and mails returned. I think the dealership and dealers in the US are pretty spare, and maybe the company's not doing well or being taken over, but just from my experience - quality drums.

Please understand, I am not bringing sound into the picture. The question was placed on value. That is what is being addressed. Pearl and Pacific are quality builds, but they are common. This line of the Tamburo are common build. Again, I state that if it were the stave construction, the value would adjust accordingly. For historical value, they were purchased (bought out) by Proel way back in 2004.

Sorry if I went off topic a bit! I got a good deal on mine so yeah, I probably wouldn't pay tons for it, but since I'm the only person I know or have met that's ever played a Tamburo, I just wanted to give my general opinion as someone who's got one and has recorded and gigged it. At least I know who bought 'em out now!

I live off topic. They say it's age, but I've been this way since my teen years.

Thanks guys. However, I missed it. And the guy was rather rude in telling me so as well. Maybe he's a lurker on this site.....

this is a high end drum. the list on these are hi but since they really

don't have a market here i would see how low he will go. is this

a stave model? these things are LOUD . i played a bebop model

some years ago and the volume was more suited to heavy metal.

after sitting on this for a few years he might just want to get

something back on it. worth a try. maybe you would then

try to sell it on a european site and see what happens. you might make some money on it.
