Strange Club Date Sighting Last viewed: 40 minutes ago

Hello all,

Yesterday, a friend of mine picked up a BDP Club Date kit from 1966. Matching #'s in Great shape. The strange thing is that the Bass Drum is Virgin. The Legs clip onto the front hoop and the tom mount clips onto the batter side Hoop. Does anyone have any info on this set up?

Thanks!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I'm not surprised....the club date was the low end offering and I'm sure the clip on version was the cheapest. I actually prefer the clip on spurs and tom mount...I just like the way it looks and the shell looks great without any hardware on it.

Whatever the deal (unless this was a re-wrap), it very well could have been a special order with the hoop-mount tom holder and spurs.

However, Ludwig did offer a "Combo" model that was of the same style as the Club Date but as late as the 1964 came standard with the hoop mount tom holder...

The Keystone badge placement on the Duco kit looks so odd to me. Was that placement only on the Combo outift?

I once had a 20" Club Date bass drum with no tom mounting hardware or spurs. I thought maybe it was a marching drum or a strange one-off. GREAT-sounding drum! I kinda wish I would have kept it...

In the catalog the "Combo" kit doesn't have clip on spurs. I'll post pics of the kit ASAP.

I work at the drum shop that sold this kit. It's really not that big of a deal... we see kits come in in all types of configurations. It just shows you could pretty much order a kit any way you wanted. We have a 67 Ludwig silver sparkle kit 20/13/16 that just came in with factory double retractable spurs and factory drilled early knob type mufflers (pre ball bat type found on early Ludwig snare drums) on both top and bottom of the toms.. (not drilled for ball bats)...ya just never know what will show up.

The club date mentioned in the OP was a good players kit, not really collectors grade. The wrap was a bit faded and had a few small cracks but was original and it cleaned up pretty nice.

Hey!

My buddy has been raving about your shop! I cant wait to check it out.

I think the club date kit is really cool. Neat to see a kinda odd ball kit like that.
