Stack o' Slingerland project shells/hardware. Last viewed: 11 hours ago

I almost hate to ask such a vague question, and I know I'm not going to retire on selling these, but--before I turn them into a giant kitten playground--can anyone guesstimate what a bunch of these shells are worth. I have what started out as (someone elses) mid to late 70's Slingerland COW concert tom set. He had a huge kit, split it in half, took the hardware from one half of the concert toms to make regular toms out of the other half. There are a 14x16, 12x15, and 9x13 that are still wrapped. The 14x16 has a Set'o'matic mount on it. The wrap is pretty rough, the insides are decent. There's a 10x14 and 16x16 floor tom he stripped the wrap off and clear coated, and the floor tom is drilled for lugs on the bottom side. The 10x14 has a set'o'matic mount, and the floor tom has all the lugs and the 3 leg mounts. Plus, a stack of about 20 lugs that came along with the shells. The three that are still wrapped have no lugs but serial numbers within six digits of each other (385***). And, to (almost) close out the pile, a mid/late 70's 14x24 Avante bass drum (two tom mounts) with a now-rippling black wrap, minus one hoop and one side's worth of t claws.

Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks a lot! (And sorry!) I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of stuff so I can focus on drumming, not drums.

I have a similar set of 70s COW Slingys that I've been trying to sell for a couple weeks now. I can tell you I have gotten very few hits on it, and I have dropped the price 3 times already. COW is probably the least sought after finish, and concert toms seem to drive the price down even further. You may have better luck parting out all of the hardware and shells rather than selling them complete.

What Deadhead said. . .

I've got a similar set, and want to unload it, watching ebay they don't bring much.

In fact, if you do the numbers, you'd be way better off parting the stuff out if the hassle is worth it to you and doesn't bother you.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Thanks for the replies, guys/gals! I figured as much with the COWs. They were just such weird (to me) sizes that I couldn't pass them up. My kittens have enjoyed curling up in some other random project shell I have, so they might end up with a COW tower to play in. I thought it would make an interesting kit, but lately I've been trying to play rather than fix/obsess, so....

Mike T: I listed the shells depth by diameter, so that tom is a 14 head by 16 deep.

backbeatkeeper: Sorry, I don't have an extra arm and I don't want to pull a mount off the bass yet.

Lucky: I'll pm you.

Thanks again!

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Troy...wait....you just contradicted yourself there. You noted the tom as 14x16 and stated "I listed depth by diameter" then said the head is 14" .....(?)

Is it really 14" head x 16" deep ??? That would be one hecka unusual size Slingerland.....

Sorry for the delay in responding to my own thread...I've been having hell at work for a few weeks and this was (unfortunately) far from my mind.

Mikey, I pm'd you but your box was full.

Kevin, I finally emailed you back.

Jaye...oops! I had total drum dyslexia there...you're right. That shell was 14x16, 14 deep and 16 diameter. Which, to me, is still unusual...a 12x15 and 14x16 just seem weird.

I would've loved to see the kit new, though...you could take a minute just doing a tom roll from one side to the other! Looking at the catalog scans from '76 i think it was the Jupiter outfit, only he had added another bass drum and two of a lot of the toms....ahhhh, seventies.

Thanks1
