Dr., would the front head in the pic be the original? Kind of confusing as to when Slingerland changed to the thicker, modern script - after the sale in 1980(?). The Super Set-O-Matics suggest pre-1982 (?). They appear to be 5-plys.

Would this be a factory 'beta' kit? The serial numbers suggest 1979-80ish, as do the standard dimensions - I'm guessing of course (this is where you come in!).

What a fabulous looking kit... If it had double-headed toms, I'd be very interested. Expensive, but its a big kit.

cheers!

1980 would be a good estimate. All the hardware features are correct for that year, and yes the big-S script logo clear Black Dot front BD head is a standard Slingerland offering at that time. This big-S script Slingerland logo style on bass drum heads was phased out in favor of the the later 80's logo script Slingerland style, with the level of the S dropped down a bit, during 1981. Looks like the one small tom shell shown is a multi-ply OEM leftover from a small stock of them that Slingerland got from Jaspar in the later 1970s. The Copper plating was being done by Slingerland at this time for the marching line, and the owner of this kit special ordered it.
