Hi Dr., At one time I had stripped the Tan paint that was on the interior of the 3-Ply Slingerland Artist #153 Snare that I own. My Snare is from the 1970-1972 period going by it's logo badge. I was going to go with a natural maple interior but have decided to have the interior repainted with it's original color. How many coats of this Tan Beige paint did Slingerland use for the interior over the maple inner ply? I have heard Jack Lawton can do this for customers as well? I am not an expert painter, so I would not want to damage or ruin my drum! What color from a Paint Chart, would as closely as possible match what Slingerland used during this time period. And did Slingerland Brush or Spray on this Tan Paint on the interiors of their Shells? Any info would be great. Thanks again for all your help. Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420
Slingerland Weak Milk Chocolate Tan Interior Paint Last viewed: 6 hours ago

It was generally sprayed on, with thickness varying quite a bit from so thin as to be barely noticeable to so thick as to be completely opaque. Due to this thickness variation the appearance and shading of weak chocolate varied also. What is the serial number of your drum?

Hi Dr. Thank you for responding back to me. The serial number on the badge from my 3-Ply Artist model snare is 27466. Thanks again for your time. Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420

Well, in that serial range it was often pretty thick on snare drums. Here is an interior from the same period.

Hi Dr. Thanks so much for the info regarding the Tan interior paint. My only other question is if I want to repaint the interior myself, what Brand name and Color Tan Beige Spray Paint should I use? How many Coats did Slingerland use? From the picture you sent me it looks like 4 or 5 Coats? Or maybe I should have Jack Lawton do this for me since I am not an expert in painting? Thanks again for your info. Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420
