Have an opportunity to trade for this 70's 5ply maple set. He says one of the toms is no longer (I assume the small one) What's it worth? A good set to play, learn on? Thanks

Well if you aren't using the motor and you got it for cheaper than $600. It's a no brainer.

The BandJump For JoyIt is a very rare occurence when someone asks for a value and gets one on here. I have seen a couple cymbal guys throw values of stuff out there but usually this type of question never results in an actual dollar amount, unless of course someone was trying to buy these from you. Then you would be PM'd or emailed so nobody could see what they sold for.

Lot's of drum experts on here will argue every point down to the washers on vintage drums until someone asks how much something is worth, then nobody knows anything.

I don't know what they are worth, but it sounds like a decent deal to me. If the cymbals and hardware go with em then it probably is, especially since that boat motor may sit for awhile before being sold. Check out EBAY and see what a similair set is selling for. This is probably the most used source of value type information anyways.

I am learning to play on a set of Slingerlands slightly older than those and they seem to be working fine. It isn't like there is a difference between a new guy and a veteran hitting a drum.

I hope this helps

have a wonderful evening

Okay, drumhack...the set is worth around $600-$800. You can't really give a pin point value on something without it selling. Each vintage set is different...condition, originality, color, modifications. So, like I said you can't really figure out exactly what it's worth until it sells. Confusing but do you kind of get it.

Personally me. I wouldn't spend more than $450 on that set. But, the gold sparkle is a beautiful color once clean.

Absolutely unfounded. Most all get assistance. There are some that are missed. Not all of us are perfect.

This better not be happening. That would be an incredibly unethical maneuver. If you have proof, please provide it. That's a very serious breach and should be reported openly so that we know who to avoid dealing with in the future. I can assure you, I would not have any dealings with someone who was that dark and low. Period.

Again, absolute bunk. Not all requests are answered. That's life. Most requests are handled within a reasonable amount of time. We are not a bunch of appraisers who are sitting at the keyboard awaiting the next lot to be wheeled in. We are just a group of people who love and appreciate good vintage drum equipment. We share stories and advice and help one another out. Pretty cool stuff, if you were to ask me.

Excellent advice. That's the sort of logic that should be provided to an inquiry. You are right on the money.

Absolutely! That's why some of us don't give out values. They are obtainable for most anyone. Educating others is where growth takes place. You have done exactly what should have been done in this case. However, I would add that the chances of finding several 5 ply Slingy kits sold on ebay might be tough. They just don't appear too often. The 5 ply value is a bit less than the 3 ply kits. Also, the gold sparkle wrap appears in good shape. That will add to the value. The addition of non-Slingy hardware will bring the value down. Those are almost all of the pieces to the puzzle you missed. Pretty good job.

A new guy doesn't have shrapnel.

The drums don't care that's for sure.

The audience however... they care :)

To answer the original poster - If you could sell the outboard for between $600.00 and $800.00 and do it quickly, then I'd go that route.

Having that kind of cash at hand, you'd likely find a better deal/kit if you went looking. Your options would be greater too.

Value on the Slingys pictured in todays market - Maybe $500.00 tops for just the shells (no extra hardware) in my neighborhood.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

New Chinese Gretsch over these drums??? ouch. These drums are heads and shoulders above those Chinese imports.

I understand wanting to have options...seriously. But, could you please pass the contact info to us? I would be interested in this kit...as I'm sure there are others here, too. Nice nice nice drums. Granted the 5 ply sounds a bit stiffer than the 3 ply, but dang! Those are sweet drums. Yes, he has them overpriced. Yes, the Luddy mounts drag the price down even more. But there's gotta be some middle ground, don't ya think?
