Slingerland Badge Last viewed: 9 hours ago

I have been on the site trying to get the 'about' date of my slingerland kit. The badge on the drums looks like the sliver and black badge of the 70's kits as far as the style and font on the badge, but the badge color is black and brass. Didn't know if these might be a late 60's kit during the transfer. Any insight would be appreciated.

Ive been there...and I don't know if you have noticed but there is a difference in the slingerland font (You can tell by looking at the L's in slingerland) between the black and sliver badges and the black and brass badge... My badge looks like the black and sliver badge font...but it is black and brass

Judging by the serial number according to this link: http://www.vintagesnaredrums.com/drcjw/article_2_serial_numbers_page3.html Your serial is a five digit, which means it was part of the reset between 1970 and 1975, but the badge looks like the same one as this one: http://www.vintagesnaredrums.com/images/badges/slingerland/slingerland_black_gold_oval2_large.jpg which is the imported drums in the 80's. That's about all that I know just from what I see. The Dr. will know exactly what it is. Hope this is some help!

Well thanks for the help, thats what I figured...I know they can't be from the 80's...they were bought used in 74' lol. So I'm thinking in the 70' to 72' range

Just a guess...looks like the badge was on a lacquered or stained set. I'm thinking it was a black and silver badge that someone "re-lacquered" or stained over.

Right, as Rich K. indicates, at some point someone touched up the finish - and badge - with a clear coat that has yellowed over time - very common. Your drum pictured is a mahogany finish from 1972. Your badge is the 1970 - 1972 Oval Black & Silver Niles, bottom second from the left:
