Slingerland and Ludwig Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Once again I got screwed. After emailing back and forth for almost a week the guy finally gave me his number when I told him that I would come and buy the set. So I called him Friday afternoon and what does he say? I think I am going to keep them, that's what he said. I completely understand but at the same time it does suck.

Are you saying the set came with two Ludwig concert toms or the Slingerland's were concert toms? If it was the same slingy's and came with the two Ludwig concert toms then that would be an amazing coincidence. Maybe this dude has two homes.

No they were mounted Slingerland concert toms. Sorry to hear you got skunked on the kit. That was a nice deal with the extra Ludwig concert toms. I haven't had much luck here either.

Not being privy to any of the original posts, I can only speculate . . . You offered a price under the asking price and he has grown tired of people undervaluing his drums. So, he decides to keep them. Is that about it? If so, he didn't screw anyone.

Some people are just gauging the market value by amount of interest. He may have decided they were worth more or just changed his mind. Either way $500 I feel was a fair price. Unless they put FIRM after the price one has to think there's some room to negotiate. You might see them next week with a $750+ price tag on them. Never know. LOL.

Perfect! Absolutely the way it goes. Quite a few years ago, I watched a man put out the offering of a sweet old 22 Z.Turkish Ride for a clean hundred and watched the interest. This alerted him that it may in fact be worth quite a bit more. He pulled it and decided to wait. We all have watched it here on this very site. Go back and review some of the threads and you will see an everyman John Doe selling a kit or snare for low dough, only to stop all transactions after being alerted to actual value. Said drums are then sold for many times the original post.

Key in all of this is "original value". It was offered up at one price and then pulled when said seller realized he/she could get more. That's called capitalism and/or greed...depending on which side of the chopping block your head falls. It's a very individualistic enterprise.

Personally, I try to ensure the seller of actual value prior to closing a deal. There's nothing this world could offer that is worth more than my own integrity. If both parties are cool, then we proceed. If not, I live without it. No sweat. If the seller crab walks ... we're done. I would rather walk away from ten sweet deals than have one freaked out seller chime my email daily ranting about what could have been. Not worth it.

You are better off walking away (or being force away) from that deal. For whatever reason, he stopped the ball in play. There's no telling what kind of 'stuff' entered his little mind and played havoc with your potential deal. Just count yourself fortunate and keep your eyes peeled for another deal.

Bottom line: Don't feel like you were screwed. He flat out crab walked. Count it a blessing.

I offered him $400.00 and he said the price was firm so I said ok I will give you $500.00. I'm not being literal when I say I got screwed, just bummed out. The thing about it is that when I called him he said he wasn't sure if he wanted to keep them or not. He said he would call back in a couple of hours to let me know for sure and I never heard from him. Now the add has been removed from Craigslist. No big deal, something else will come along.
