Does $725 seem a little low to you guys? And, only ONE bidder? Almost makes me feel like I missed something.

I'm not a real purist so I can live with the repro bottom hoops. I just wanted a 5 piece for gigging and I didn't want to spend a ton because gig sets get beat up over time.

I hope he packs it correctly.

1.) It doesn't have all the original parts.

2.) The bearing edge(s) might need work -which, if done, will negate collectible value.

The cost of replacing the parts plus the potential cost in repair work, raises the initial investment and lowers the collectibility value. At that point, it becomes a question of utilitarian value and player value...which can only be determined by you.

They look like nice drums from what I can see it the limited number of detailed pictures.

I often take chances like this on eBay.

Sometimes I get the elevator and sometimes I get the shaft. LOL

I was hoping to not have to detail this set but as I look closer at the pics, I see rust on the tension rods and hoops so it will have to be torn down and detailed. :(

Hopefully, I didn't go too wrong. That "bearing edge" statement scared me too.

In some cases (most?) "edge" work may devalue collectiblilty. However, if you can true & restore the edges back to their original intensions I don't see a problem there. A good drum builder can do that. It can be a real bear in some cases (50's Gretsch edges with wrapped shells) but it can be done.

Well, I finally received this set today. I emailed the seller 3 times in the past week because he wasn't shipping. He never answered a single email. He was totally non-responsive.

The set is really beat up. The worse thing is that the inside of the bass drum is painted red.

What can I do about this? Can I strip the pain without ruining the drum?

I have a good mind to make a claim against him. Since he is totally non-responsive to everything, I imagine he would also be non-responsive to the PayPal claim and I would get my claim.

Fortunately for him, I'm not that kind. This set is definitely "significantly not as described".

I think I can bring back most of this with some hard work and some new parts. However, I just don't know what to do about that red paint.

I guess this time, I got the shaft.

Screw that... get your money back

That red paint will be tough to remove, and should have been revealed in the description.

He stated the only repairs needed was to have the bearing edges trued.

There is a lot more than just that. I have not done a thorough inspection yet but one tom mount is damaged. Most of the screws that hold the mounts are not original.

Some seams are lifting and there's a crack in the wrap.

Once I do a final inspection (gig tonight. Have to do it tomorrow) I will send him a list a deficiencies and ask for a simple apology. That's all I want.

If he is totally non-responsive again, I may make a claim.

Will that red paint affect the sound? If not, I could put coated heads on both sides so I can't see it. LOL

People complain about eBay and the fee structure and the rules. Truth is, bad sellers like this are the only down side to eBay that I have ever faced.

Can I use paint stripper in the shell without ruining it?

What's my other option...sanding?

Yes, just make sure you tape off all the holes.

I've read here too about taping all the holes, and also completely covering the finish with plastic.... taping it off at the bearing edges.

You'll be scraping off the paint from the inside and drop a glob on your work surface next to the drum, and then move the drum and set it down on the glob.... you get the picture.

And yes I agree... I would much rather get a "No way I'm giving you a refund " answer than no answer at all.... Just plain rude IMHO.
