Screwy Slingerland lug screws (and washers) Last viewed: 26 minutes ago

Loading...

Hi Everyone-

I'm new to the forum, and hope to have a question answered by the Slingerland experts. I recently purchased a 60's BDP set, and the floor tom has washers that are not flush to the shell, but separated by smaller washers, similar to these photos on eBay (not mine but a recently completed auction, search for item #270650422699). Was this common, and is this correct? I have never seen flat washers inside shells that were not flush up against the wood. Looks as though someone attached small lugs with big bass drum lug screws, which are longer. Has anyone seen this before?

thanks for any info you can provide!

I posed this question to the drum shop selling these drums on eBay. Here is my question and the reply I received:

Dear donndrum,

Hi,

Have you seen screws/washers (like these on the silver Slingerlands) before, where the larger flat washer is not flush to the shell, but is separated by smaller washers? Do you know if this is something that Slingerland did, or was this reassembled incorrectly by someone, maybe after taking them apart to clean?

thanks-

Hi-Definitely not a Slingerland thing... it looks like someone did take em apart for whatever reason- they probably put the screws in that way because they didn't have for some reason the shorter screws used to put lugs on the thinner 3 ply shells- it appears they used longer screws used on 5 or 6 ply shells- thanks for your interest, DBDrums
