How much is a ruby strata 14" ludwig snare worth, cleaned, polished, tuned, with nice new heads and snare wire?

Tough one! Shoot. You can get an entire Standard kit in good shape for 400...with snare and hardware. You can also pay 300 for just a Standard snare. So, this one is tough to nail down. It really comes down to what you want to pay. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than about a hundred for one of these snares 'cause I can get one WITH a kit for just a tad more. Sure, some of these kits go for more...but then some of the snares go for much less. You really have to be careful when shopping Standards. I've learned (pretty quick) that the prices are ALL OVER the place. Shop carefully and you could pull one for just a tiny bit of scratch. Good Luck.
Hi, I would not pay more than 150.00 for a snare like that, thats if i needed it for a set that matched the snare..Mikey
[COLOR="DarkRed"]I agree - that as far as 'true value' of such a snare, $150 might be the max. They are solid enough drums, but really nothing spectacular in a snare drum.
But, I think if the drum was in excellent shape...it could push about $200 in an auction.

It's kind of crazy that Standards have not crept up in value like all the other Ludwigs that used exactly the same shells. As such, they are incredible values IMO. Though the hardware is generally considered less desirable, the standards are equals in the sound department with down beats, club dates, etc., and the Strata wraps are becoming sought after by some. I think it's only a matter of time that Standards will become more valuable by collectors.
Do Ludwig Classic Lugs fit on Ludwig Standard shells without having to modify the pre-drilled holes?
There was a cool looking Standard Strata wrapped snare that a dude
put classic bow tie lugs on listed in feeBay a few weeks ago, looked sharp
and rare but of course not entirely authentic all on it's own...
You all seem to be mentioning the word "Standard." Does the fact that it's a ruby strata finish mean it's a standard?
I want to figure out how to date this set. Along with it came with a WFL speedking pedal, nice ludwig hi hat stand, a bass drum, and a rack tom. There are no badges, though a hardware box that came along with it has a bright yellow Ludwig badge. The bass drum hoops are inlayed with the same ruby strata wrap. This set is intended to be 4 piece, and has a cymbal stand mounted on the bass drum.

Hi With-out photos. Its hard to say but with-out badges i guess that your set is from the mid-1960s too sometime is the 70s..Ludwig had two lines of drums the Ludwig Classic and the Standard line...The standard line ludwig used the same shells as on the classic line, but Ludwig used not the same lugs or hardwere with the standard line, but them again on a BAD dayLaughing H ludwig also put ludwig classic lugs on a standard drum....Mikey
