Anyone used them on toms?
I'm currently running coated emperors over coated ambassadors on the 13" and 16" toms of my Radio King but I'm intrigued by the Ambassador X. I play rock music; loud sort of garage almost grunge stuff, so they'll need to handle a beating. Where do the sit in between regular ambassadors and emperors?

Anyone else? How do they compare to coated emperors and/or coated ambassadors? Sustain an attack? Mids & Lows? Feel under stick? Volume and sensitivity?
I haven't personally tried the newer Ambassador X heads. I tried the Emperor X when they first came out and absolutely hated them. Since that first gen though they did change the formula and since then I have grown a liking. Though I'm hard pressed to even break through a standard emperor head.
From what I know though the Ambassador X is very similar to the standard emperor head. I think It has a longer sustain though. If you like Emperor's than you'll probably like these.

Aren't those Emperor X heads 2x 10mil plies with a dot? Seems ridiculous.
I was thinking it would be closer to a regular Ambassador, being single ply, rather than the two ply Emperor. Wouldn't be a bad thing, I've got coated Emps on the Slingerland now, I'm just thinking a little more stick response, volume and sustain might be the ticket. I figure the the AX should give me that, but I'm wondering about the other 'side effects'. Thanks to the limited range of stocked heads down under I'll have to order these in so I want to make an educated decision if possible...
The AX will be more durable and give a good stick articulation. The first batch of EX heads had both a top and bottom dot, way too much, the head couldn't be cranked. And yea for me, there is no need for that much durability,unless you play with a hammer,claw side out,lol.
I think the AX is 20% thicker than the standard A.
I had an ambassador x on a supraphonic snare and loved it, it suited that drum very well, they are 20 per cent thicker than a regular ambassador, in general it gives a bit more volume depth and attack than that head Plus slightly more warmth. Very nice head.
An ambassador is 10mil, ambassador x is 12mil.
The AmbX has been my go to head on my snares for the last couple years. I just bought a 12 and 14 to go on my toms on my JM kit, while still using an Emp on my 16 floor. So far, I really like them on the toms, will have to see how durable they will be.
