I haven't personally tried the newer Ambassador X heads. I tried the Emperor X when they first came out and absolutely hated them. Since that first gen though they did change the formula and since then I have grown a liking. Though I'm hard pressed to even break through a standard emperor head. From what I know though the Ambassador X is very similar to the standard emperor head. I think It has a longer sustain though. If you like Emperor's than you'll probably like these.
Aren't those Emperor X heads 2x 10mil plies with a dot? Seems ridiculous.
I was thinking it would be closer to a regular Ambassador, being single ply, rather than the two ply Emperor. Wouldn't be a bad thing, I've got coated Emps on the Slingerland now, I'm just thinking a little more stick response, volume and sustain might be the ticket. I figure the the AX should give me that, but I'm wondering about the other 'side effects'. Thanks to the limited range of stocked heads down under I'll have to order these in so I want to make an educated decision if possible...
