There are currently two Avante sets on ebay. This one and a blue sparkle. Both are in the 1400-1500 range. I believe they are both overpriced. Neither comes with the Avante hardware setup. They both do come with a snare, though. That's a positive.
It's really up to you. Personally, I wouldn't pay this much. But who am I to talk...I paid too much for a Slingerland Buddy Rich kit that I absolutely love to play. I started to sell it and have since taken it off the market. My wife does not want me to part with it. The attachment is too strong. It's my go-to practice kit with calf skin heads and such.
So, should you pay 1400-1500 for the kit? No. Is 1k too much? No. If it's something you want, you may as well sink the funds. If it were a trade, I assure you I would have picked that "patriotic" Avante kit up. No doubts. I am tearing up the search strings looking for the right one.
So, if you can, pick it up for a grand. You would then need to put out another 75-100 for the correct spurs, 50 for the hihat, 35-40 for the snare stand, and another 80-100 for the cymbal stands. If you want, another 40 for the pedal, though it's not a great pedal. If you can do the work, patch the area where they put those icky spurs.
That puts you at 1330 for the entire 'correct' kit. Not bad. That would be a go.
Let us know what you decide and such. Good luck!
