The finished results look pretty good to me. My guess is that it's not as tough as a *real* wrap, but for $59.00, it's tempting. I have an old import kit waiting to be rewrapped. Was going to go w/WMP, but the Mardi Gras and Orange Sparkle are calling to me.

Dudes...DO NOT FALL FOR THIS STUFF ! TRUST ME !

I admittedly learned from experience..boughts some of his "MardiGras" um..."wrap".

This stuff isn't drum wrap. Read the auction between the lines. He never actually says it's drum wrap.

I am not gonna say the seller is misleading; he seemed a nice enuff person, but this stuff is some sort of theatrical/stage/prop adhesive-back shiny kinda tacky something-or-other.

It will be a very stupid $60 to spend, trust me. Go out and buy 2 x-large pizzas and a GOOD six, instead. That's a much smarter use of your money....

So, um, what exactly IS it, then? You didn't quite say in your post, either.

Is it paper-thin? Thicker? So thin it's transparent? Does it come off easily? What, exactly, is this "wrap"? What about it is not desirable? You're being as vague as the auction poster...

Obviously, for $59, it's NOT going to be durable, but does it at least look good?

I've bought some. It is, of course, thinner than standard wrap. It's also thicker than contact paper, and is more plastic-based, so it's stronger...than contact paper.

I bought it to experiment with the whole re-wrapping process cheaply, on cheap drums, before attempting it on good drums with expensive wrap. It has fulfilled that purpose.

If you're comfortable with the idea of getting what you pay for, the product is a good option for certain scenarios.

Well, Caddy...sorry I wasn't specific enough.... The thread was about "should I go for the $59 and wrap " ?

My answer was "no", and then I followed with the qualities which make it NOT a wrap.

It''s not drum wrap.

It's not contact/shelving paper.

It's not wallpaper.

It's not clothing.

It's not something which can be used for birth control.

It's not something which would take anchovy and mushroom toppings well.

The Mardi Gras...in person...looks NOTHING like the Mardi Gras as photographed...and even less like real MardiGras vintage wrap.

I dunno what it is made of, either. It's about as thick as a sparkle wrap; thicker than many pearl wraps; not as thick as a glitter wrap (which already creates a problem right there.....so the suggestion is to place a new layer of wrap over an existing layer of wrap ?...that'll do the head-fit real good.)

It's a slick smooth glossy surface with pattern beneath. It is MUCH more flexible than drum wrap. You can actually stretch the material. It is nowhere as tough as wrap; it's softer...it can be dinged relatively easily.

It smells like a plastic bottle factory.

Now, in agreement with TubeLugs...yes, it can successfully be applied to bare drum shells and you will end up with...wrapped drum shells. But you will not have wrapped the drum shells with drum wrap.

Quite honestly, if you wanna go wraps on the cheap...DrumFoundry has a whole bunch of bona-fide wrap colors and styles for just over $50/sheet. That's gonna be about the cheapest stuff available to any of us sorta plebes, short of one getting a reseller's license.

I recieved samples of the cheap drum wrap and I also got some sample sheets of real drum wrap from precsion drum co. The real ones are soooooo pretty! The other, however, are like a vinyl decal. The guy says you can leave the backing on the "drum wrap" and just peel about a inch off the end and wrap it like the hybond tape method. I wouldnt use it unless it was for a very cheap drum kit, but then a very cheap drum kit aint worth the trouble of wraping it. I go to all the trouble of taking the drum apart, shining all the lugs, rims, parts etc... The finding the correct muffler, clleaning the badge etc.. New heads. I guess I should spend the money for the real stuff.

It looks ok though, but ill pass

Dollars to doughnuts, it's this same stuff: http://www.dickblick.com/products/sparkle-brite-glitter-film/?param=0&ig_id=2795

The way I've heard it described is like a bumper sticker. This guy here goes into his adventures with the Sparkle-Brite stuff here: http://www.joshroot.com/rewrap.html

I have a bunch of beater orphans I'm trying to make a kit out of, so I'm tempted to try some of this stuff just for fun.
