From my previous enquiries to all you helpful sorts, I've learned that 80's Slingys are a shadow of the older stuff, but this is a good-looking kit with loads of extras,and possibly in a rare wrap, surely it's going to sound better than my Mapex M? Anyway, what would be a realistic estimate for price?

Sorry, forgetting the no link rule! Thanks to the webmaster for putting the pic up. For more detail, the extra toms are slingy's too, and not generic ad-ons as I've found with other such set-ups. The badge looks non-foil, and is silver. It's deffo 1980's, and 5 ply maple. The badge still says made in USA, so I'm guessing it's a decent kit. All tom-related hardware is original, including the stand for the 8 and 10 inch toms. Original pedal too. Any ideas on year and a reasonable price to pay?

Mirror chrome isn't really considered a rare finish....it is actually a bit of a handicap in selling a vintage kit (unless it is really cherry) because that stuff didn't age very well.
It's also probably the thick shells, not the nicer 5-ply maples of the '70's or the even better 3-ply with re-rings of the '30's-70's. You could ask...I mean, it's not a great pic, but looking into the bass drum it could be one of the last 3-plys. they became the optional shell spec in the late '70's, but apparently were still available up until around '82.
There was a poor guy here on C'list who was trying to sell his 5-pc for, seriously, a good 6 mos. No takers, & last time I saw the ad... he had it down to $350.00 asking price.

Thanks for your help. The seller says they are 5-ply, so assuming they are correct, that would clear that one up. I'm not too concerned with the collectability, mainly the sound. As there's loads of cases and extras I though it would be worth it if it doesn't go too mad on the bidding (£310 at moment and it hasn't hit reserve!). Thanks for the advice though, I'll lower in my my mind what I'd pay for it!
Man! It hit £510 and still no reserve reached! I know drums tend to cost more (old and new!) over here in the UK, but, sheesh, think seller was dreaming!
