Sorry it took me so long to reply... This snare has a definite 'crack' when you hit it. It is a bit ringy, especially with rim shots. But other than the expected ring, it's a killer snare. Besides, I like metal snares to ring. If I don't want ring, I use a wooden snare. Tunes up very nicely. The micro adjustment on the snares is really nice as well. Honestly, I was amazed that this old MIJ kit sounds as good as it does. I'd gig with this anytime. When I was a kid, I had a Crown kit. It was nowhere near this nice. This kit, IMHO, is just far to cool... The snare makes it even more so. Now, does it match the range of my Black Beauty or the Rogers Super Ten? No, it doesn't. But it sure isn't to far from the Rogers. I've got the kit for sale. If this drum had come to me as an orphan, I'd keep it. I just couldn't bring myself to break up the kit, so it goes with it.
I really hope you get close to your price. On the one hand, I want to see these gain prominence and go up in value. On the other, if they begin to appreciate too much, I will be out of the game. This economy has killed me financially. I don't see recovery anytime soon, on my part either.
Do you mind if I ask what you are asking?
There is one way to control the ring, and I think I have already told you about it, the Remo Fyberskin 3FA. It gives the absolute best ring control for this drum. Does not kill it, just gives great control.
