I have been looking for a pair of 15" Black Label hats for a while now but they are always above my budget. I have an opportunity to purchase a set of 14" but I am wondering what the major sound differences are between the two? The band I am in plays blues, funk, rock, metal and rock ballads. Like many others I like that Bonham sound but not stuck on it. Does anyone have experience with the Paiste Black Label 14" hats and how diverse are they?

I have a pr of 14" sound edge black label from 1980. They have a ding on the top bell but they sound great - especially open - and the chick is very full. I think they sound pretty loud but warm. Not as cutting my SC dark SE hats but these aren't as heavy as those. The 15's are usually very pricey and I have not played the two side by side but I think the 14's would be great for the music you mentioned. The 14's are definitely easier to find. I will probably move mine sometime soon since I have 4 pr of hats now... but not because of the sound. I think if you get some you won't be disappointed. Some say the red labels sound very similar???
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. The Black Labels I found are a better deal than most of the Red Labels out there.
Do you know what year or years they came out with the re-issued Black Labels?
