Wow. Is that a stipple gold finish? What's the story on Ludwig and Radio King in the same sentence? I wasn't aware of that.

I've been watching it, but that's about it.:(

I think maybe a Radio King Head is installed... there's no pic, but the seller says it says Genuine Radio King "on the top".

I cruised our Drum Guide, and it looks like a Ludwig Standard from mid-twenties to 30's by the strainer, that's missing part of the arm..... ordered in the Deluxe Finish... imitation gold, or "Ludwigold" .... you could get it for $53 additional cost in those days... WOW

I'm gonna go play my Supra now, get some kinda Aztec beat going.......

I don't see anything written on the head, though. Someone brought it up:

Q: Hi, I just thought I would let you know……… Slingerland made Radio King drums. Not Ludwig.

A: Thanks for the info.I APPRECIATE ALL THE INFO ON THIS ,The name however on the drum is ludwig.

Another instance where useful pictures would go a long way.

Yeah better pics are a prob , lotsa times it's an intentional dodge to cover defects, but this seller has over 100 items for sale on Ebay, and only 3 are musical instruments, only 1 is a drum ....in this case I believe they truly just don't know, I'll bet a better macro close-up of the batter head would reveal a Radio King trademark.

The "tic-tock" classic strainer is missing the long throw arm that actually rises above the level of the rim by about 1/2".

Looks to be all Ludwig, except for the wrap? Did Ludwig do a gold stipple this early?

Vintage Drum Guide shows a 1928 Original Ludwig All Metal Drum with the option of ordering the Ludwigold finish (simulated gold ), .... or genuine gold, .... in addition to several other finishes and drum sizes.

This is why I don't collect. I just don't get that. That snare drum won't sound like an 1800 dollar drum. NO snare drum sounds like an 1800 snare. I've never understood it and obviously never will. It's good that some do, though. That way, goofs like me can see mint examples of those things in the old books and films. Pretty cool old drum. The only thing I can think about is, "what does it sound like and how does it feel?". Nice thread Kevin. Neat old drum.
