Niles era Snare info... Last viewed: 13 minutes ago

Hello all:

I have had a few vintage snares and kits, but am seeking info on a particular snare...

I am in discussion to purchase an original Niles era "steel" 5x14 snare.

the owner tells me it is steel with a serial # of 477xxx

I belive it to be a COB model, but cannot acurately date the drum or it's value.

the last time I bought a $20.00 POS snare as the owner described, I cleaned it, had it appraised and it turned out to be a Gene Krupa Model w/ 2 etched lines in the shell...Sold for $350.00

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Here are a few pics of the drum from the seller

Thanks

josh

This is a steel shell Festival model. You might find it fun to estimate the date yourself using the articles at http://www.vintagesnaredrums.com/drcjw/. Focus on the strainer, badge and serial number.
