My second Dynasonic is on the way! Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Well, it looks as if I'm quickly falling in love with these drums. I bought my first Dynasonic last week without even know what I was getting (see this thread... http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=8976 ) and now my second is on its way.

I stumbled on this drum in hopes of salvaging the parts I need to refurb my first.

Here are the pics of the first Dynasonic - I was told that it's a 1968

And here are the pics of my second...

Any idea if these parts will be compatible? I need to use the tension rods, snare frame and snares, one screw on end guard for the bottom rim (the one with the hole), maybe the muffler, and the script logo.

I hope those parts are compatible, otherwise I just bought myself another project. The price felt right at 75.00 for the second Dynasonic. I calculated that it would cost 250.00 to 300.00 for original parts for all the above.

Any help you can give me will be appreciated. I don't get the second drum for a few days.

atomicmorganic,

What's that quote that I've heard in the past??? Oh yeah.. "It's better to be lucky than good!"

Pure luck my friend. I guess I have good drumming karma.

MrDacs,

I am just getting started with Rogers drums and Dynasonics so I am by no means an expert. What I have learned in the short time that I have been reading about them is that the value greatly varies depending on the year, condition, and model of the drum.

I have been searching eBay for closed auctions of items that I am researching and that usually gives me a pretty good idea of value.

I'm sure the experts on this board can give you a very good estimate if you provide more information about a specific drum. But ball park... I've seen Dynasonics sell on eBay for anywhere between 165.00 to 350.00 and occassionally some for well over 400.00. All depends on the drum.

Hope this helps.

When they are sub-$200 it's because they are missing the snare frame.

$450 asking $ for a local sale isn't unusual....but it is a bit high.

$375 if it's in real good shape is a more market-reality selling price.

The parts should be interchangeable, methinks.

A good place to research rogers on the net is http://drumfarm.com/ he is very knowledgable, his pices are a little higher, but he is a dealer and his desriptions are very detailed and he lets you know about any mods x holes etc.I think the 60's metal dynas go for more than the 70's 80s with the 6.5's going for more than the 5's,I am pretty sure the parts are interchangable, earlier throws were called clockface, but yours looks like later strainer, same as 70's throw, your new one looks like 70's big r started 1976 I think.I think they modified the bottom snare rim to make it easier to tune the lugs closest to the snares and maybe for acces to the adj screw on the snare frame, and I am pretty sure all parts will be interchangeable.I had a 1976 and it cleaned up great, alot of times you will see a rust spot on the top of the throw tension knob,Rob Cooks rogers book says this the rule rather than the exeption. My throw used to just release itself every once in a while and then not do it again for months.strangest thing, ghost in the machine or rogers mojo I guess
