Mickey was definitely using As. There is a picture of him at a BN session in this era, and he’s clearly got a 20" A with rivets. Probably just a run of the mill 50s or even 60s A.

I’m not so sure about Clifford Jarvis’ ride, but it sounds to me like a slightly heavier 22" A.

Roker would play the Ortlieb's Jazz house in Philadelphia three nights a week, no cover. He was a big admirer of Philly Joe and it showed. The difference was that Roker would get this boogaloo thing going with the toms with his right hand while playing pure Philly Joe. Pretty cool.
