This is an oddball drum I picked up recently. 2 ply shell, possibly beech? Notice the snare wires on the topside of the bottom head, and the hoops are slotted to accomodate the clips. I'm hoping someone here can tell me something about it - has anyone heard of this company, and where were they located? Thanks, guys. I'm genuinely baffled on this one!
Melvik snare drum - this one's unique! Last viewed: 2 hours ago
Looks like from Eastern Europe
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, but hoping for more specific info. I appreciate your input.
If i re-call right you drum was made sometime in the 70s i think in the U.S.S.R or could have been Germany..As far as the clips in the rims Zickos drums made in the U.S had the same set up...Mikey

No, no... Never was produced like any might was compared with this.
or could have been Germany
Maybe, though I doubt it - it's not similar to German conception style.
Very interesting throwoff internal side's action.
This is a cool one... :)
is there any chance of getting a good picture of the shell construction? that might offer some clues.
Hi - that is an indeed extremely cool snare, mate, and a brainteaser, too!
Neither lugs nor anything else at this drum reminds me to another snare drum.
If it's out of the West European/ German area, this friendly guy might be of help for you:

We're waited so long - where is a Ralf's comment ?? :)
Yeah, mr. Fritz Stegner - really phantastic drum-sientist.
I looked up the surname Melvik on face book,I found that everyone with that name that listed their location was in the country of Norway.
With a little bit of fantasy, the name could also be
M e h i k
And that sounds more Eastern (European) wise ...
But still got no clue on it.
