Marcus Gilmore on Gretsch RB @ Blue Note Hawaii 2/18 Last viewed: 3 hours ago

The phenomenal Marcus Gilmore was in town last week performing with the legendary Chick Corea and bassist Carlitos del Puerto at the Blue Note Hawaii in Waikiki. Since I don't know of any Craviotto jazz hits in this area and he was looking for something other than the club's backline Yamaha Maple Hybrid kit, I loaned him my 60's Gretsch Round Badge drums for the week.

Chick's longtime sound engineer, Bernie Kirsch, also recorded the trio all week, so a CD release may be forthcoming.

That's fantastic! Did you loan the cymbals and hardware also? The only reason I ask is that I'm really curious about that second High Hat (with 6" cymbals?).

I believe they were a pair of 6" Zildjian Zil-Bells on an extra hi-hat stand that he played with his heel. All of the other hardware was mine (DW Flat Base stands) and he brought his own cymbals (mostly Zildjian prototypes).
