Well fellas,.. to be honest, I'm not looking for the odd sized pain in the ass bass drum,.. hence the very reason I'm looking for either a 28-30" drum. I'd probably take a 26, but I'm not one for taking the headaches off of others so that I can make them my own.DOH I have enough already!,...HA!
If you watch ebay, you'll see lots and lots of 26-28" bass drums come up for sale and never go anywhere. I know,.. I've been watching myself.
Best price I've seen so far has been $186 and change.
Sure take look now and you'll see some starting at $400-900 dollars,.. let me know how many of those actually SELL.
Snares?,.. sure everyone knows a good very early snare will bring you cash, but that snare and everything in the whole mix is worth one KEY thing!,....
...what someone else is willing to pay for it.
Something I think people often have a hard time swallowing from time to time. I would know, I've been one of those very guys!
I may not be as learned as some of the fellows on here, but I didn't fall off the cabbage truck yesterday either.
I've managed to find a lot of parts and hardware at yard sales, antique shops and used music shops far less than many advertised pieces from online dealers, vintage drum guys, etc. Bear in mind, sure I've had very good, reasonable dealings with some vintage drum collectors also. Sad to say I've run into more of them that think everything they own is gold, and everything you own is worthless.
Sure a guy may ask $300-500 for a bass drum,.... but do you think he'd pay that much for that exact same drum himself?... Rarely!
So, don't count your chickens till they hatch brother.... I wish you well selling anything, if you're looking to do so. Just don't get those dollar signs in your eyes before you even leave the gate.
I generally walk with my feet on the ground down here on earth, in reality...not in the clouds though its nice to get your hopes up about things we sell, its just that if we're let down its all that much worse.
All the best to you!

Just a related side question....
Anyone have any info as far as time lines as to the old paper labels often found inside the drums of Ludwig and others?
I'm curious as I've come across an old bass drum a friend had picked up and I'm looking to figure out for him just how old it is? I know I've seen that old label before, on a website or the like,... but just can't find it now??
Thanks in advance!

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Yes, it's an Ajaha...very old Italian handmade. It's an 'original' one too, with the ink signature, not one of the '70's UFIP stencil ones which had a reproduction stamp of the signature.
How large is it ?

Years ago I wrote an article which made it onto wikipedia before they let loose their gestapo of geeky 16-year olds to, um...'patrol' and edit their site.
Most of the article is still there.
