The nickel hardware gives it a nice patina against the galaxy sparkle. Beautiful piece of vintage history! Would be fun to see it and ID4F's set together in the same photo, as Then and Now versions.

Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

Steve - If it was just a matter of having the money, a lot of guys would own one of these. The real difficulty is finding one of these kits intact. You can buy a 'new' one with no problem at all, but try and track down an old 60's kit and it'll take awhile before a complete kit comes up for sale. And then, the price is going to be through the roof. A Galaxy sparkle Downbeat snare drum alone will bring $1200 to $1400 on fleabay. That's just for the snare. Try finding a floor tom in blk galaxy... mission impossible!

It took quite a bit to get them this far. The shells are in good shape, but since the hardware is nickel, it will not shine like chrome. This set belonged to a gigging drummer for 30 years, so it has earned a little patina.

KC - The best polish I've found for nickel is Cape Cod Cloths. Takes a little elbow grease, but the results are worth it.
