Hey, there's a keystone gold sparkle 13 and 16 up on ebay right now. Could go nicely with your new 20 bass. Just a thought.

No pitting. Except in 1 spot and under it is the copper color again. The shell is pretty heavy. I guess what I'm asking is how do I figure out if it is brass or not. And what is the difference in price between brass and aluminum?

Brass= BIG $$$$$......aluminum....not as much, but with very little to no pitting....worth more than most. You can remove a lug and do the scrape test on one of the lug holes. Using a small round file, file a small amount of the hole. If the shavings are silver color its aluminum. If its brass color its brass.

By the weight, and the fact mine had an ink mark on the inside. Also it has one or two minor pits. Very unusual for these as this drum was a "working" drum all its life. Most "working" drums got pitted really fast. Also, by 1968 all the shells used were aluminum, brass was done by supposedly 1961-1962. Small round knob muffler usually equals brass. Baseball bat or large round knob usually equals aluminum....unless.....there is a B or BR stamped above the muffler knob. That only applies to blue/olive badge drums though and it could mean brass or bronze depending on how late in the 70's it was made. If it has an A-G ink stamp on the inside it stands for anti-galvanic, the company that made the aluminum shells for ludwig. Later on they switched to a sticker on the inside of the drum that read: Reliable Anti-Galvanic.

Great looking snare! Mine is it's Older brother. So, how much are normal supra-phonics worth and how much are brass? The final question...Would a 65 have a red felt baseball bat muffler?

1965 should have a white basebal bat muffler. Normal supras are running $275-325 for a 5x14....a little higher for a 6 1/2x14 since every bonzo nut wants one. Supersensitives are a little cheaper because people think the snare mechanism is overly complicated and hard to set up. NOT TRUE! This is of course average condition with average pitting. One like mine will command slightly higher due to its condition. Brass shells are called Super-Ludwigs and command a higher price.....5x14s are around $575-650 and 6 1/2x14s (if you can find one!) are higher still.

I'm sorry about the 20 questions. I was curious if earlier years cost anymore than later year and how much would you say yours is worth?
