I tried to post this set in the for sale section but it didn't go through...so I thought I would get some opinions on what this set is worth.I am selling a 1965 blue sparkle set....played in the 60's then wrapped and stored since then.22 inch bass,2 16 inch floor toms,1 13 inch mounted tom,and a 14 inch chrome snare. This set is unmolested and complete less throne. It has 2 zildjian turkish cymbals and the high hats. The cymbals are 18 and 20 with one mounted off the bass drum. The snare depth measures 6 inches and has 8 mounting lugs. The snare looks as good as the day it was made. The shells appear to be perfect. This set has all the original skins and a wfl speed king pedal.I listed the set for 1600.00 on Craigslist, lots of interest but no takers or offers. This set has never been detailed and should clean up as new...is the set worth more detailed/cleaned or would people rather do this themselves? thanks in advance...great site
Ludwig 1965 Blue Sparkle set Last viewed: 25 minutes ago
The drums and hardware would currently sell for between $800-$1000 in excellent condition with no alterations and all original parts. The cymbals could be worth a few hundred if they are Avedis Zildjians and up to several thousand dollars if they re old K. Zildjians.
$1600 is a little too much for the current market -unless the cymbals are K's. -which I doubt. They are probably A's.
Blue sparkle is probably the most common color of vintage Ludwig drum sets. And the 22-13-16 setup is called a Super Classic. The extra floor tom would make it more like what Buddy Rich played -or Ian Paice of Deep Purple -or Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. But I don't think there was an official name for that configuration.
Pictures?

Thanks for responding....I sold the 4 shells tonight for 1,100.00 to someone from craigslist, actually the only person to show up.Although the snare was 1965 the shells were actually 1961/62.I still have the snare and all the hardware including stands, pedals, and cymbals....so I think I made out alright. The guy who bought it seemed very knowledgable and already had the blue sparkle snare to the set.He did seem surprised that the bass drum had wfl blue painted bands around it. I will list what I have left in the for sale section. Thanks for a great site.....
As for my new found money..it will go to a good cause...my son's bands need a new P.A. system..
That was a realistic price. I would say that all parties should be happy with that deal -saying that having not actually seen the drums in question. So, congrats on the sale.D' Drummer

Hi
You would get £1000.00 for a kit like this in the UK if it's in good condition.
Obviously without photo's it's difficult to judge the condition, But ludwig do command big prices here.
