Ludwig 1962 pre-serial Jazz combo Snare Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hi Everyone,

I have a chance to pick up this nice pre-serial (stamped 1962) duco 3X13 Ludwig "Jazz Conmbo" snare.

I've searched but can't come up with any prices for it? Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Kelly

I noticed that a WMP Ludwig Jazz Combo Snare recently sold on e-Bay for $446.11. Fourteen bids were received.

There's a BDP Ludwig Jazz Combo Snare currently listed on e-Bay for $500.00 or best offer.

Hope this helps!Yes Sir

Thanks OldSchool!

Spotting the Jazz Combo on Ebay and the knowledge of the recent sale are a big help. Some of the more rare drums are harder to price out because sales tracking is more difficult. I imagine the duco finish is worth a little less than the Pearl wrapped Jazz Combos????

In general I would agree that a pearl finish is worth more than a duco. HOWEVER.............it all depends on what the particular buyer is looking for. For example, if you're looking for a duco to complete a vintage kit that particular finish might be worth more TO YOU than a pearl that wouldn't match the rest of your kit.

Also, keep in mind that "asking" prices are just that. Many times they don't equate to "selling" prices, especially in today's economy.

Good luck!

Yes, this economy is challenging to the vintage market and shaking things out a bit which does not change the fact, as you mentioned, that the drum must fit a buyer's needs.

FYI, I ended up buying the "duco" jazz combo for $240. Probably a nice deal in this market. It plays well with lots of "pop" and would be very nice in an "Old School " small setting jazz gig in a smoky bar, get the feeling;) Not so bad on a vintage Ludwig snare shelf either!

Thanks again,

~K

I came across a very early 64 black "duco" jazz combo a while ago for $60. Back then I didn't know much about vintage drums and kept putting off buying it and it eventually sold..If only I came to the vintage drum forum earlier.
