Leedy and Ludwig drums...help Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I was given this vintage set of Leedy and Ludwig Sparkling Blue drums. I have 2 links of photo galleries of these drums. I would like to know of approximate values of what I have in the photos and any information that can be given. The snare is Leedy and Ludwig, dated January 1952, the tom is Leedy and Ludwig dated December, 1951. The bass drum is Ludwig only and by the badge appears to be from the 1930's. I could be wrong about that. Help me out, I am clueless!

Thanks in advance for any help, I have lots of hardware that came with this stuff and some Zildjian cymbals probably also from that time period. I will deal with those later. Cool Dude

Hard to figure out the deal with the bass drum......it could be a Ludwig & Ludwig shell that someone fitted Leedy lugs to a long time ago to make it match the Leedy & Ludwig drums.....or....it could be a Leedy & Ludwig drum that somewhere along the line lost its badge and was replaced with whatever could be found.....its a mongrel any way you look at it with that Gretsch cymbal mount bracket and Rogers swivomatic spurs fitted to it.

My knowledge of the Leedy & Ludwig era is limited, so best if someone with more knowledge chimes in on this one.....I always considered the Leedy & Ludwig drums to be more Leedy than Ludwig anyway......Also, I stopped considering the Conn era Ludwig drums as real Ludwigs after Senior left the company and started WFL....they lost their direction and soul if you will......

That's a pretty valuable snare drum.

The tom is an L&L, but L.D. is right...someone took a '30's Ludwig Bass and outfitted it with Leedy hardware (and Rogers bass spurs and a Gretsch cymbal bracket (!!!) )

So, unfortunately, the kit becomes a mutt at that point. Too bad, because if the Bass had been an L & L too, that kit would have been worth about $800+. But with the Luddy bass, probably about $500-600 or so for the 3 drums.

It looks to be in pretty nice shape....nice find !
