I requested a possible trade for a snare they had advertised. Presented below are the emails. Read bottom-to-top, please:
Dear leecountymusic,
***le,
First, I don't "troll." You can check my ebay feedback if you wish. I have 645 "excellents" and zero negatives.
Second, this is simply an idea I had and not really that important to me. Regardless of the theoretical "value" of anything made 45 years ago, things are worth what someone will pay for them. For example, I owned a green sparkle jazz set in the late 1950's that used a 28" bass as that was the fashion then. I am sure that it would be worth a lot today if I still had it, but it is long gone and I don't miss it. I also took lessons from Krupa and Cole in NY and if it had not been for college I would have become a professional, but chose school instead due to their advice. I was only 15 at the time, so I felt that this was good advice, and in those days, before modern music, musicians made no money at all, which is why they had a studio in NY giving lessons.
I am sure Mr. Ludwig was a fine business person and my snare sounds just fine. I simply wondered if you were in the market for a chrome snare that is in new condition and would be interested in a trade, nothing more.
Sorry if I misled you.
Cheers!
Rich

Dear richopp,
Rich, You do realize that wooden Jazz Fests are worth more than the common Supraphonic-400 right? Mr Ludwig explained to my husband at dinner one night, that Ludwig introduced the metal shell drums to take 25% of the pressure off of the wood shop (1 drum of a 4 pc set). He also explained, it brought their cost per set down as well.
Are you seriously looking to acquire a matching jazz festival or just trolling?

Dear leecountymusic,
Hi,
I have a museum-level champagne sparkle Hollywood kit purchased at one time in 1967-68 (Christmas), including cymbals, stands, etc., that has the following numbers:
Bass 566620
16x16 560338
8x12 566626
9x13 567668
Chrome Snare 565199
The badges are still shiny from new and the set is flawless.
I was thinking of replacing the chrome snare with a wrapped one just for fun and wondered if you might be interested in trading your champagne snare for my chrome one? Naturally I will be pleased to supply pictures if you are interested.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers!
Rich

I find it interesting that the first response to a potential customer is to call them a troll. I have been in business for over 45 years and, while I have encountered some difficult customers along the way, I don't recall ever having resorted to calling them nasty names before any commerce has taken place. Clearly no commerce took place in this case. As I seem to recall, the purpose of business is to "ring the register." Otherwise, why bother?
Cheers!
