What's the story with the rims? Never seen anything quite like that.

Poppies: These are the original rims that came with the original Cuban timbales, when they were first made back in 1966. Later they were changed to what currently you see in the market. When Martin Cohen copied the timbales for the first time he made no changes but due to copy rights he soon had to change the timbales and this is one of change very few have ever seen. The other changes cam also via lugs, stand, and the addition of cowbell mount .
