Kuei Tien Drum Kit Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

HI , I have just bought this kit as a practice kit to set up in my rehersal room and leave it there as it is in a very "dirty" condition.

Can anyone tell me anything about the kit I would presume it to be a late 60's early 70's kit due to the toms being 8inch depth..

Any info would be grateful thanks..

We don't allow dirty drums here, sir. You must immediately render them clean. This involves the tedium of a complete tear down and much grease, that of the elbow variety.

Welcome

They look almost like a cross between old Yamaha and Pearl. The tom mount on the bass is most certainly the Pearl variety, yet the lugs have a Yammie look about them. My brother had a set of Yammies many years ago, in the 80s, and they looked very similar to those exact drums. I know the name was not the same, and I'm almost certain they were Yamaha. I am going to say they are almost certainly Made In Taiwan, MIT as we xcall them, hence the name. Here they would have a some other cool, kookie, or really lame neam, like George Drums, or Kwick Pace...the inventiveness of the naming during the 80s was wonderful. And yes, they date late 70s to mid 80s, by the overall character they present. More than like they are a lauan shell of some 7-9 ply and similar thickness measured in mm, around 7-9 mm thick, and probably out of the Pearl plant there. They will probably tune easily and well, so spend some time and get intimate with them, tear down to the bone and clean them,Kleening lubricate everytthing and see if the bug bites you, then you will get frustrated and join the community to get the answers life has bothered you with for so long....like, are drums really that cool that people will troll this site for hours learning about them?Yes Sir

Thanks for that I have only just bought this kit and the finish is in very bad condition but the hardware lugs and mounts etc are tarnished but not rusty so I think after I have stripped them down and had a good look at the shells I might just look at renovating the shells then maybe a new paint job or recover all depends on what I find.

(Just as note I only paid £10 for it so whatever happens it is a bargain).....

Maybe a pic of the interior would help also.

Yeah I agree with you and will post more pics in a few days as I will be away from home until Weds.

Will take close ups of the badge, lugs, mounts and internals though from what I can already see they are sprayed a silvery colour inside.

If you have any more suggestions for pics feel free to ask as any help in identifying the kit would be nice..

Hi Mikey you are maybe correct in your "Firewood" but as these drums till sound like drums and will do exactly what I wanted them for thats fine by me.

The Drum sizes are as follows.

Bass 22X14

Tom 12 x 8

Tom 13 x 9

Tom 16 x 16

I have posted a few more pics for a little more information.

As Stated earlier the internal finish is a sort of "mottled spray" I took pics but the site would not let me post any more ...

Hi Wolf,With the photos you posted..i would say shells a 9 ply with out rings on the inside of shell..Tom mounts are copys of pearl..T-rods are also copys of pearl they have been around a long time they started to make them in the late 60s and still many M.I.J. sets today used that style.Mounts on floor tom for legs again still used to day but that style came out in the 1980's.The claws on bass are copys of like 60s Sonor-60s slingerland type, many Pearl made sets from the late 60s-and still today used them...So your set is made by Pearl with one of many names used by them for export...Mikey

Thanks for the info Mikey its been very enlightning I might think about recovering or refinishing the kit. I have now stripped all the hardware and started to clean it with suprising results as most of the chrome is coming up gleaming with very little rust or tarnishing though will need to replace the bass drum spurs and tom legs but everything else is looking good..

Once again thanks everyone for your info..
