I've always been a Z guy, but just ordered an Istanbul Agop to put in the mix. I heard the sound file and it was lovely! These are some great pies.
Istanbul Agop...first one is coming Last viewed: 52 minutes ago
They are handmade, hand hammered traditional method cymbals..
You can't go wrong with them. I'm reverse of you: switching from Istanbul to Zildjians :)
In case of deal with johnnyringo:

They're great for sure. Perhaps very close to Ks of old. I'm not sure if I'll actually make the switch or not. I still have love for my old As and Ks. And some of the newer ones too. I like both I guess.
I just found an Agop 19" "Traditional" crash/ ride & an 18" "Vezir" crash/ride at an outdoor swapmeet, & they are radically different depending on the series. They both have many qualities of the old K's. But the Traditional is much brighter & livelier than the Vezir, which is very dark & quiet. What series did you get ?
I just ordered a Mel Lewis 20". I've heard some other stuff and it is tempting! I play jazz and contemporary music as well. But heck, Matt C is using them...
I actually think these pies are history in the making. I strongly feel we will still be talking up these cymbals in 40 years, much like the old Ks are now. I know this is a bold statement, but just think for a minute...hand made.
^ thats how I feel about Craig Lauritsens work as well.
I'm really thinking it over! But I'd probably keep my vintage stuff...I'm sure I'd regret letting those go.
