Interesting value on old Yamaha Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

We have had folks here from time to time post their old '70' Yamahas...which IMHO are usually very cool kits...asking about their value.

Stumbled on this auction...interesting in that it might go higher in the days to come. Am not sure about the provenance of the bass-drum logo....but the seller is a decent guy who knows his stuff (albeit is taking some artistic license in dating it as a '60's kit ~ if it's a '60's....it's '69) and the kit looks to be in excellent shape. It's not a rewrap. I do wonder where the bids will go....

Given the uniqueness of that wrap, I would expect it to tip $500 for sure. Now, it IS just Luan 5-ply shelled (giveaway being the grey paint). Nothing out of the ordinary for a Japanese kit of that period.

Why can't we get cool wraps like some of these we've seen? It would make sense that SOMEONE would resurrect these cool old wraps. The Vintage Look has been en vogue for some time now. The "vintage" wraps I've seen over the last handful of years have been ... lacking. This one is wild. Some of these others just scream SIXTIES! It's a shame no one has picked up on this.

Maybe its just me, but that wrap died for a reason, like mod orange and citrus mod.......fuuuuuugly!

For that vintage vibe you can't go wrong with the traditional sparkles and marine pearls......or the onyx finishes that Rogers used to offer.....Blue Onyx is pretty cool.....a friend of mine had me re-wrap a mismatched 80's ludwig kit in that finish and it came out great! Thats a finish ludwig should have offered! wish I had taken pics.....

Actually...with the custom colors now available thru Drummaker.com...you CAN just about get ANY color you want...even something as wacky as this.

LD...beauty is in the eye....and McJ...I agree...I mean, maybe it's because they have been standardized colors for so long....but I really would love there to be a greater selection of standardly available patterns and hues.

Bowling ball...tiger stripe...tiger's eye...those igneous-lookin sorta pearls....alligators...old Mardi Gras, etc....

Got taken down...my recollection was it was at about $460 last time I looked. So, someone must have made a significantly higher offer for the seller to pull the listing.

Interesting....frustratingly, I guess we'll never know what it went for.
